One of our only completely specialized instructors, Christopher Mahon is a highly skilled and experienced guitarist who has been actively teaching, gigging, and studying guitar and music theory in the Bay Area for over a decade. Chris has been teaching at Music Time Academy on Saturdays since early 2012, and is happy to work with students of all ages and skill levels who wish to learn either acoustic or electric guitar, bass or ukulele. He is patient with children and beginners, but also enjoys teaching teens and adults who wish to learn the more advanced intricacies of the instrument and music theory as it applies. Although Chris is only in the studio on Saturdays, many of our students and families recognize him from his blazing guitar solos during the teacher performances at past Music Time Academy recitals.
A seasoned professional musician, Chris has not only been playing and studying the instrument for over 15 years, he has also performed at hundreds of events in countless bands and ensembles of different genres. Although Chris’ speed, dexterity and musicianship shine most in the more guitar-centered genres of rock, pop and metal, Chris also is highly skilled on jazz, funk, soul and acoustic guitar playing. Chris hosts a weekly jam session at Red Hat in Concord every Tuesday night (sorry kids 21+ only), in addition to performing with current band, Bully West.
